ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – A three-goal night for Kyler Campbell saw him notch his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading 16th, 17th and 18th tallies of the season as the Greater Sudbury Clubs defeated the Elliot Lake Red Wings 5-1 Saturday at Centennial Arena.
Campbell opened the scoring eight minutes into the contest as he converted on a power play chance by burying one from between the hash marks.
Getting another a few shifts later, Cameron Walker made it 2-0 as he deflected in a right point attempt.
Another extra-man marker from Campbell came late in the first as he finished off a two-on-one with a quick snap shot from the right side.
Greater Sudbury kept it going early in the second stanza as Seth Coulter sent a cross-ice feed over to Alexander Dillon who redirected the chance into the net for his third goal of the season.
A Cubs giveaway however helped Elliot Lake to get on the broad as Brodie Kearns was the beneficiary and converted from in front of goaltender Sasha Gaumond.
Moving to the third, Campbell completed his three-goal night on a shorthanded breakaway were he made a couple of crafty dekes before tucking the disk into the left side of the net to wrap up the night’s scoring
Gaumond made 31 saves to pick up the win for the Cubs while Elliot Lake starter Cameron Smith faced 34 shots against in defeat.
The victory saw Greater Sudbury extend a winning streak to four in succession.
