SUDBURY, Ont. – With the results of Saturday’s Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contests, the Greater Sudbury Cubs have officially clinched their second consecutive James Aspin Trophy, emblematic of NOJHL regular season champions.
With 79 points through their first 50 games and a 37-8-3-2 record with two contests remaining, the Cubs cannot be caught and have secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming league playoffs.
It remains tightly contested for the No. 2 seed for the postseason as the Timmins Rock (70 PTS), Hearst Lumberjacks (69 PTS) and the Powassan Voodoos (69 PTS) are all vying for that slot.
Meanwhile, the Soo Thunderbirds (65 PTS) also sit with a chance in the race for home ice advantage in the first round of the NOJHL playoffs, which are scheduled to get underway later this month.
All NOJHL games are streamed live on the league’s official online broadcast partner, FLOHockey.tv.
