CUBS OPEN WEST DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL AGAINST THE DEFENDING CHAMPS

The West Division regular season champion GREATER SUDBURY CUBS will host the NOJHL defending champion SOO THUNDERBIRDS in the NOJHL West Division final.   The Cubs will enjoy home-ice advantage as Game #1 in the West Division Championship final goes on Thursday, April 6th at 7 pm.  Game #2 in the series will be played on Good Friday, April 7th at 7 pm at the Countryside Sports Complex.  

The Cubs encourage everyone to come-out and begin your Easter weekend with the Cubs!   GROWL TOWELS will also be available to a limited number of Cubs fans attending Thursday night’s game!  Cubs fans are asked to bring their GROWL TOWELS from the first-round of the play-offs, as prizes will be awarded to lucky winners waving their towels during the game!

The Cubs encourage all local hockey fans to come-out and cheer-on their home-grown junior ‘A’ hockey team at the modern Countryside Sports Complex.   FREE PARKING will also be available for everyone attending Thursday and Friday night home games at the Countryside Sports Complex.   Play-off admission pricing remains the same as the last round of the play-offs that were played at the Walden Arena.

CUBS DEFEAT ESPANOLA PAPER KINGS IN FIVE

The Sudbury Cubs defeated the Sudbury Wolves junior ‘A’ affiliate team in five games in the opening round of the play-offs. Sam Assinewai led the Cubs in scoring in the first round with 6 points in five games. Oliver Smith and Cole Crowder had five points while Cameron Walker led the Cubs team in goals with four markers. Cubs goaltender Noah Metivier was outstanding in goal for the Cubs and will face his former team in the West Division finals. Metivier was named as the Eastlink Star of the Week and has the second best goals against average (2.44) and save percentage (.929) in the opening round of the play-offs.

The Thunderbirds were the underdogs going into their series with the second-place Blind River Beavers but the defending champions won the series in just five games. Jackson Truchan is the talk of the play-offs so far after leading the T-Birds and the league in play-off scoring with 12 points in just five games. The Soo power play was firing on all cylinders and finished with a 36% success ratio. Meanwhile, the Cubs had the second-best penalty-kill percentage in the opening round of the play-offs by killing-off 20 of Espanola’s 21 power plays in the series for a 95% success ratio.  

PLAY-OFF TICKET INFORMATION

Play-off tickets for home games #1 and #2 in the West Division Final series will be available at the door of the Countryside Sports Complex or fans can reserve tickets for home game one and two in advance by emailing Brittany at : info@ntaaa.ca prior to Thursday’s game. Play-off ticket prices remain at $17 for adults, $12 for juniors and seniors and $7 for children. A family of four can attend a Cubs play-off game for under $50.
