The Greater Sudbury Cubs added two more victories last week with a 6-3 win over French River and a 2-1 victory on the road over the Soo Eagles on Friday. With the wins, the Cubs remain in first place in the Western Conference with a 10-point lead over second-place Blind River. The Cubs maintained their slim one-point lead over the Timmins Rock for first-place overall in the NOJHL. With the wins, the Greater Sudbury Cubs also moved-up a notch to #7 in the latest CJHL national rankings!
The Cubs will play against three of the toughest league opponents this week beginning Thursday night when the Cubs host the Soo T-Birds. Game time is 7:05 at the Countryside Sports Complex. The game is sponsored by SMARTCELL COMMUNICATIONS – the local authorized dealer of TELUS located at the Four Corners Mall. Lucky Cubs fans will win some great prizes on Friday night including a GOOGLE Nest Hub for the Cubs Fans of the Periods. The first 200 fans will also receive a TELUS calendar courtesy of SmartCell.
On Friday night, the Cubs will travel to Espanola to face the Paper Kings. The Cubs and Kings have played each other eight times already this season with the Cubs sporting a 5-2-1 win-loss record against Espanola. The arch-rivals will face each other four more times this season including Friday night’s tilt in Paper-town. On Monday, the Cubs will host the Powassan Voodoos on Family Day! Game time is 2:30 pm at the Countryside Sports Complex. This game replaces the postponed Cubs home game on December 22nd due to bad weather. The Voodoos are one of the hottest teams in the league by riding a 9-game winning streak. The Voodoos defeated the Cubs by a score of 8-1 in the last meeting between the two teams. This game will feature a very special “family day celebration” by team members of the Sudbury Playground Hockey League!
