CUBS REMAIN RANKED 7TH BEST JUNIOR HOCKEY TEAM IN THE COUNTRY!

The Sudbury Cubs recorded two more victories last week including a 4-2 win over the Elliot Lake Red Wings on Friday night and a 3-2 victory over the Powassan Voodoos on Thursday night.  The victories give the Cubs 64 points on the season and an 11-point lead over the second-place Thunderbirds in the NOJHL’s Western Conference.   The Cubs lead the Timmins Rock by five points for first-place overall in NOJHL league standings.  

Cubs’ forward Pierson Sobush continued his hot-hand and recorded his 30th goal of the season in Elliot Lake on Friday night.   The local forward now sits in 4th place in league scoring and leads the league in goals scored.   Pierson has now moved-up into the Top 10 in most goals scored from across all nine Jr. A leagues from across the Country and sits tied for 7th place in CJHL goal scoring.  Matt Wilde of the OJHL and Kian Bell from the Alberta Junior Hockey league lead the way with 33 markers.

CUBS HOST FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS THURSDAY NIGHT

The Cubs will be looking for their seventh consecutive victory when they host the French River Rapids on Thursday night at 7:05 pm at the Countryside Sports Complex.   Thursday’s game is sponsored by BIANCO’S SUPERCENTRE on the Kingsway and one lucky Cubs fan will win a SAMSUNG BLUETOOTH SOUNDTOWER valued at $700.  The Cubs will close-out the busy week with two road games including a Friday night tilt in Powassan and a Sunday matinee game in French River.

SAM ASSINEWAI EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOURS

Local product Sam Assinewai continues to turn heads with his stellar play for the Cubs as he was named an EASTLINK STAR OF THE WEEK for recording two more goals and adding one assist.   Assinewai was named the game’s second star on Thursday night with a goal and one assist in a 3-2 victory over Powassan.  Assinewai then scored again in Elliot Lake to give the star forward 9 goals and 16 assists for 25 points in just 16 games played for the Cubs this season.  Assinewai has now recorded 15 points in his last 7 games and is currently riding a 13-game point streak.
