Sudbury, Ont. – Billy Bidermann collects a trio of goals en route to a 5-1 Greater Sudbury Cubs
victory over the Powassan Voodoos in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Thursday
at the Gerry McCrory Sports Complex.

Things started quiet, Nolan Newton had an excellent chance off the rush early, yet couldn’t get
past Voodoos goaltender Kannon Flageolle. However, the Cubs did manage to strike first when
Billy Bidermann buried home a rebound off an Oliver Smith point shot with a little over six
minutes to play in the opening frame.

The game picks up in the second stanza, with a total of four goals being scored between the
two neighbouring rivals. It didn’t take long for the scoring to commence as Voodoos forward
Mathieu MacMillan beat Cubs goaltender Noah Beauline short side off a rebound just 59
seconds into the action.

A few minutes later, Oliver Smith quickly regained possession behind the net after chipping the
puck into the Voodoos zone, only to find Cubs forward Billy Bidermann alone in front, who beat
Flageolle over the pad for his second of the contest.

It took the Cubs just 17 seconds to extend their lead. Chris Innes snuck behind the Voodoos
defender leaving him wide open in the slot. It wasn’t soon after until Cubs forward Cameron
Shanks found Innes, who sent one over the pad of Flageolle, and into the back of the net for his
first of the season.

In addition to the scoring, Miguel Renaud became a force to be reckoned with, laying down a
couple of monster hits on the opposing side.
On the man advantage, Billy Bidermann received a quick pass from Kyloe Ellis and beat
Flageolle glove side to complete the hat-trick and add to his team-leading 10th of the season.
With only minutes to spare in the second, Cubs defenceman Carter Geffroy makes an amazing
defensive effort, preventing a break-a-way, ultimately maintaining the Cubs three goal lead
going into the final frame.

During the final 20 minutes of play, Cubs goaltender Noah Beauline continued his strong
performance, making various highlight reel saves in the process. Cameron Shanks adds the
insurance marker, and the Cubs take down the Voodoos for the third time in the 2022/23
campaign

The Cubs will be back in action tomorrow on the road vs the Espanola Paper Kings as they look
to extend their 8-game point streak and stay atop the NOJHL standings.
