FRENCH RIVER – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading Greater Sudbury Cubs put in another business-like effort Saturday night by defeating the French River Rpaids 7-1 at Noelville Arena.
It was the Rapids who struck first in the matchup when Tristan Kitchen collected his team-high 16th marker by tipping in a Ryder Tracy right point shot past Cubs’ starter Iain Wintle at 11:54.
Coming back to tie it on a man advantage a couple of shifts later, Kaedyn Long snapped in a puck that found him after a Tyson Richmond attempt rang off the cross bar and bounced out.
Finding their form in the second period, front-running Greater Sudbury tallied three times before the midway point of the proceedings to seize control of the contest.
Ty Dubreuil began the outburst at 1:46 as he whipped in a pass from Mason Walker by French River netminder Ethan Madden.
Another via the power play saw Alex Valade knock down a puck with his glove then tuck in a backhand at the top of the crease.
That saw the Cubs’ defenceman extend a point streak to 10.
Long’s second of the night at 8:10 saw him knock in a wrap around attempt from teammate Spencer Horgan.
A third extra-man effort on the evening saw Caden Dubreuil make it 5-1 as he knocked in a backhand after a Nolan Newton shot.
The assist for Newton helps him collect at least one point in 13 straight games.
Another one from Caden Dubreuil and the night’s final tally off the stick of Owen King wrapped up the result for Greater Sudbury.
