MAZZOTTA COMMITS TO CUBS

The Greater Sudbury Cubs Jr. A Hockey Club are pleased to announce the commitment of 6’1”, 180 lb defenceman MATTHEW MAZZOTTA-GRAY to the team for the 2022-23 season. Mazzotta, 17, played for the Toronto Marlies U18 team last season and also participated in the Big Nickel Hockey Tournament where the right-shot defenceman notched two assists in six tournament games. Mazzotta was subsequently invited to the Cubs Prospect Camp where he displayed his elite-level talent and potential to the Cubs coaching staff led by Head Coach Darryl Moxam.

“We are very pleased that Matthew has made the decision to leave home and develop his skills with us here in Sudbury” stated Cubs Head Coach Darryl Moxam. “Matthew had a great Prospect Camp with us back in May and we have been pursuing his commitment ever since. Whenever you can add a right-shot defenceman with his skill level, that helps to set us up well on the blueline for the upcoming season. There is no doubt in our minds that Matthew has what it takes to help his team win games and also continue his development for the OHL, CIS or NCAA level.”

“I’m very excited and privileged to be joining the Sudbury Cubs organization for the 2022/2023 season” notes Mazzotta. “Coach Moxam, his staff and the Hockey Operations team were very professional, informative and supportive in helping make my decision to join the Cubs this season. They demonstrated their commitment to help develop me into a premier defenseman. I look forward to contributing to the Cubs success and becoming a part of the Cubs family and meeting their loyal fans.” The Sudbury Cubs will commence their NOJHL season with a back-to-back HOME double-header games on Thursday, September 8th vs Powassan Voodoos and on Friday, September 9th vs Hearst Lumberjacks. Cubs home games will have a 7:05 pm start-time at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex this season. Free parking, safe illuminated parking lots and ‘family-friendly’ ticket pricing will be provided at all Cubs home games this season!
