Pair of Cubs commit to USPORTS/OUA programs

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Greater Sudbury Cubs of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) have announced that a pair of key cogs from its current roster have committed to USPORTS/OUA programs in the fall.

Team captain Daks Klinkhammer will be off to Oshawa to attend university and play for the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks while goaltender will further his education and compete with the Guelph Gryphons in Ontario University Athletics men’s hockey.

In two seasons with the Cubs for Klinkhammer, the 20-year-old Ajax, Ont., product averaged over a point-per-game with 94 in 78 contests on 43 goals and 51 assists.

This includes setting personal single-season highs in 2025-26 in tallies, helpers and points with 25, 40 and 65 respectively.

Klinkhamer currently sits fifth in NOJHL playoff scoring, having scored nine times and helped set-up eight others in 10 outings.

On his captain, Greater Sudbury head coach Darryl Moxam offered: “Daks brings a complete package on both sides of the puck each and every night. His size and skating make him a very dangerous power forward and has the ability to impact the outcome of games. His leadership and commitment to his teammates have been a critical part of our success.

As for the now 21-year-old Wintle, who hails from Bowmanville, Ont., he has yet to suffer a defeat in regulation time for Greater Sudbury so far this season.

On the campaign, Wintle went 9-0-1-2 with a 2.28 goals-against average along with a save percentage of .910 and two shutouts.

To date in the postseason with the Cubs, he’s a perfect 8-0, while sporting a league-best GAA of 2.38 and is tops with his .924 save mark as well.

For his part, Greater Sudbury general manager and associate coach Dave Clancy stated: “After acquiring Iain at the trade deadline, he made an immediate impact with our team. His size, athleticism and strong positioning quickly established him as a reliable presence in net. Competing at an elite level every night, Iain proved to be a difference-maker when it mattered most.”
