Sudbury Cubs Weekly Update

The GREATER SUDBURY CUBS return to action this Thursday night when they host the ELLIOT LAKE REDWINGS at the Countryside Arena. Game time is 7:30. The Cubs will complete the week of action with a road trip to ELLIOT LAKE for a return-visit on Saturday night. The Cubs will hold a moment’s silence prior to the start of Thursday’s game in remembrance of those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

The Cubs are currently tied for 3rd place in the West Division just one point back of second-place Soo Eagles. The Cubs have won all 3 match-ups with the Redwings this season including a close 2-1 victory in their last meeting on October 14th at the Countryside Arena.

The Cubs had an eventful week last week which began with a home game against the Espanola Express on Thursday night in their former venue – the Chelmsford Arena. The Cubs pre-game ceremonies included recognition of Rayside Balfour area City Councillor Gerry Montpellier for his ongoing support of Junior hockey in Rayside Balfour and Greater Sudbury.

The Cubs jumped-out to a 4-0 first-period lead on the strength of a two-goal effort from 17-year-old Cameron Shanks. Rookie forward Pierson Sobush also scored for the Cubs while NOJHL League leading scorer Kyler Campbell scored a power play goal in the dieing seconds of the opening frame. The Express scored a short-handed marker in the second period to make the score 4-1 in favour of the Cubs after two periods of play. The game was suspended by league officials prior to the start of the third period due to unsafe ice conditions.
The game will be completed on Thursday, December 9th when the third period will be played starting at 6:30 pm at the Countryside Arena. All fans attending the game last Thursday can exchange their ticket stub for a free ticket to any future regular season home game that the Cubs play this season.

The Cubs’ scheduled road game against the Soo Eagles on Saturday was postponed earlier in the week by the NOJHL and the game will be rescheduled in Michigan in the new year.

CAMPBELL NAMED TOPPERS PIZZA TOP-PERFORMER
KYLER CAMPBELL of the Sudbury Cubs was named the TOPPERS PIZZA TOP PERFORMER and will receive a generous gift certificate courtesy of TOPPERS PIZZA. The Huntsville native has led the Cubs in scoring since the start of the season and is currently tied for top-spot in the NOJHL with 14 goals and 9 assists for 23 points in his first 17 games played. CAMPBELL and his teammates will be back at it this Thursday night at 7:30 when they host the ELLIOT LAKE REDWINGS at the Countryside Arena.
