SUDBURY, Ont. – The surging Greater Sudbury Cubs maintained their hot streak on the ice by blanking the Blind River Beavers 5-0 Monday afternoon in a scrappy Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.

After some sustained pressure, the Cubs opened the scoring nearly 15 minutes into the first period when Jacob Signoretti sent a rising shot to the net from the left point and saw Lucas Antonioni collect the rebound and eventually stuffed in a second chance on Beavers’ starter Justin Sullivan.

Greater Sudbury then came right back and notched another as Mason Walker cranked in a crisp pass through the crease by teammate Grant Booth.

The second assist went to Nolan Newton who is now on a 15-game heater, with him having amassed 32 total points in that span.

Then, running a point streak to 12, Cubs’ defenceman Alex Valade made it 3-0 as he took a cross-ice feed from Tyson Rismond in the left circle and whipped it past Sullivan.

Carrying their three-goal lead into the intermission, the home side supplied some insurance in the final frame when Kyle Navarro lifted an attempt to the target from the right point that was tipped in by Mateo Signoretti at 8:53.

Another on an extended power play during a penalty-filled back half of the third saw a fifth supplied as Caden Dubreuil finished off a set-up from Newton to round out the scoring.

Iain Wintle posted his second shutout for the Cubs and is now a solid 7-0-1-1 in his time with Greater Sudbury.

With the triumph, the Cubs remain unbeaten in regulation since mid-November, having gone 21-0-1-2 in that span and 34-6-2-2 overall.

In defeat, the Beavers fell to 14-27-0-4.
